A graduate of Calvin College, Julia joined the board in 2017. Her B.A. in history and material culture has been reinvested in research and writing for the Michigan Historic Preservation Network; in historical interpretation at Colonial Michilimackinac, a reproduction eighteenth-century fort in Mackinaw City; in service with Wayland Main Street for AmeriCorps VISTA; and now with GGRWHC ensuring that women who have left their mark on Grand Rapids are remembered. Julia appreciates our goals of finding and preserving valuable resources that uncover the dynamic history of local women. Her particular interest is in GGRWHC’s elective history project and our contributions to Her Hat Was in the Ring, a national crowdsourcing effort to record biographical data on American women who ran for public office prior to the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920.
