About Margaret A. Edison (?–?)
On September 5, 1887, Margaret A. Edison made history as one of the first women to run for elected office in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She, along with Dr. Frances Hillyer and Melissa E. Holden, had thrown her hat in the ring for a seat on the Grand Rapids Board of Education. Little is known about Edison beyond her choice to stand for election. She ran in the Sixth Ward and received twenty-nine votes to her opponent Henry J. Felker’s majority of 161.
